Hair loss or thinning is one of the things that affect many men and women. This condition can be extremely embarrassing and hard to control, which lowers the quality of life, especially for women. Studies have shown that estrogen dominance is one of the leading of the causes of thyroid problems, which include hair loss. This is because high levels of estrogen cause the liver to create excess thyroid binding globulin (TBG)xix. TBG prevents the absorption of thyroid hormones by binding them in the blood. This means that these hormones are not absorbed where they are required in the body cells to support body’s metabolismxxi.
Unfortunately, the problem is not revealed by standard thyroid conditions tests. This is because the thyroid hormone levels in the blood remains unaffected, though the hormone is bound by the thyroid binding globulin. However, a blood testxxii can be used to detect the presence of TBG and therefore, it is advisable to request for a tested if you suspect that this is the problem that you are experiencing.
Pcos And Hair Loss
PCOS is a condition that leads to formation of several follicular cystsxvi in the ovaries causing them to be enlarged. According to experts, one in every two women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has the condition undiagnosed. This is because high obesity rates correlate with the rising rates of PCOS, which confirms that diet plays a key role in overcoming the conditionxxvii. Therefore, rather than reducing your food intake drastically, you should work on ensuring that your diet contains healthier foods only. This should include monitoring iron intake, reducing carbohydrates and consuming healthy fats such as avocado, olive oil, nuts and fatty fish.
Finally, it is advisable to work on normalizing your hormone levels. Some of the natural remedies for maintaining balanced hormone levels include stopping smoking, avoiding alcohol and managing stressxxix. Women experiencing hair loss due to PCOS can as well take natural supplements such as those that contain saw palmetto as it helps in regrowing hair.
